  The Teams Furius Wanke, Scuderia Rosso, the Reds Gauis Gropius, the True Blues Titus Minimus Anus, the Silver Arrows Sinister Dickus, the Yellow Canaries Mavis Marius, the Black Gladius Lucius Odious, the White Virgins Rufus Vicious  the Brown heels Maximus Anxious, the Green Machine Reserve Drivers Albus Malicious Remus Tedious Today's track And a side view to pat myself on the back Lights out!  The Scuderia Red's make a surge. The Red's lose control and careen towards the wall as Yellow gets the advantage with a surge ahead.  Black meanwhile scatters caltrops! With Red in the wall an angry mob comes onto the track.  It's the tifosi and they are not happy. Meanwhile the Silver Arrows throw caltrops under the hooves of White. Blue spins out causing Black and brown to ski to a halt. The end game Lucius Odious, the White Virgins, our hero of the day!

The Divine Games

  Ooh er Missus,  Greetings and felicitations, allow me to introduce myself, Dubious, slave to Ludus owner Biggus Brutus and first class gossip on the doings of the Ludus.  Today I shall enlighten you on the festival of the Divine. The Prologue The Ludus is properly owned by Senator Dubious Figulous, silly old fool, but Biggus, my direct Boss is keen on keeping mum about that.  The Senator wanted to honour the festival of the Divine, something none of us had ever heard of.  Apparently a prayer to her will give one auspicious potency in the bed rolling Department. Brutus is of course also keen on the old gods.  We keep a virgin or two about the Ludus at all times.  He even donates the odd sesterce to the poor.  Ozzy, our Primus, is getting on a bit, oh no, don't, deaf as a post that one and as a backup last year we recruited fat Lemmy, bit of a headbanger, and Dio, bit of a screamer.  The festival will be a grudge match against the local ...

The Regional bouts

  Settle down, no Missus, whaaaat? Hands to yourself.  Honestly... Greetings and felicitations, allow me to introduce myself, Dubious slave to Ludus owner Biggus Brutus and first class gossip on the doings of the Quercu Ludus to enlighten you on the Regional contest. The Boss has recruited more gladiators.  Ozzy, his Primus, is getting on a bit and as a backup we traded favours to recruit Lemmy, bit of a headbanger, and Dio, bit of a screamer.  The regionals will see us pitted against local Ludus, including that of Dodgius Whitmorus and Quilpius Asthmaticus. The Prologue Once again Senator Dubious Figulous is promoting the games.  Word has it that he holds a majority share in the Ludus, and is the primary backer.  He certainly favours mistress Lascivia, my masters wife. The hidden arena

 My flat in Durham isn't very big. With space at a premium the decision to go for 54mm Gladiators is questionable at best.  Over in Paphos I have some great 20mm figures and a printed arena. The answer, go 20mm here too.  I had the same arena as the one on Paphos printed at A2 size for £10, and brought the handful of unused Orion Gladiators back with me to kick things off.   A box of Italeri Gladiators was around a fiver on ebay and I bought the Newline pack of 8 guys for another five pounds.   Total cost £20. I am aware that some of those italeri figures are dubious, but couldn't resist the Quadriga chariot. In the spare bedroom we have an old inherited harbour type  print.  I really dislike it.  On investigation though it has possibilities with a 25mm deep frame.   Pretty hideous.  I'll sell for £20 if anyone is interested?  No?  Into the recess in the back goes a layer of thick brown  paper and atop that,...

The Festival of Diana

Greetings and felicitations, and welcome back to the Ludus Scutum Quercu,  and  Dubious, the camp slave, your guide! Oh Missus!  Stop messing about... Suit yourselves. .. The Prologue Once again Senator Ludicrous Pompous has sponsored a festival, this time to Diana of the hunt.  Female gladiators dressed as the goddess will fight dwarves for public entertainment.  Also beasts. Roman culture eh? The Ludus   Fartakiss and it's it's second rate  collection of has-beens is providing the ladies, Biggus Brutus the dwarves. And Pafos has a new arena, a resplendent A2 print, easy to store, with a great look to it. Now on with the Games... The opening fight.  Retarius vs Thracian. Fork boy is caught and put down by the Thracian.  The crowd is impressed. And next the beasts. Mavis the Amazon Queen struggles to kill a very stubborn giraffe.  The crowd is unimpressed.
